Why we started Q10E Labs

This is the start of a story.

Our main mission is to build tools and best practices to help people live a more dignified life: the kind of life which, in old age, you look back on and you can feel proud of.

We believe the core feature of a dignified life is agency - a word that describes this state of alignment where you do the things you want to do, when you want to do them.

We believe that agency, like freedom, is not given; you build it and safeguard it yourself. Unlike freedom, you don't safeguard agency with words or might; you safeguard it by learning how to manage your attention and to act from your values.

In this age, this mission feels counter-cultural. Large corporations have created systems that pull our attention away from the things that matter to us, to the things that matter to them. We want to help you claim your attention back and support you in directing it where you want.

The modern world has also become complex. Unexpected things happen more frequently: a world event that causes worry; a new online service that wants us to engage; a cultural shift happens that calls for new opinions, etc. When we try to engage mindfully with everything, we risk overwhelm; but if we remain simply reactive, we can disappoint ourselves with the feeling that our decisions are dictated by others. This trade-off is undignified.

What is the alternative? We believe in building good instincts driven by our values. Once we trust that our subconscious acts in alignment with who we want to be, we can be comfortable with what happens around us and how we navigate complex situations even when they are not the focus of our attention.

This is why we want to build tools and best practices that help you claim your attention back, and also teach you how to discover and strengthen your values, then translate them into habits and subconscious instincts that support you reliably when your attention is currently occupied elsewhere.

How are we going to do this? Stay tuned!
